The forum with the theme "Towards Greater Inter-cultural Bonding for Unity" is organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation Sarawak in collaboration with Sarawak Development Institute (SDI).
It aims to enhance the youth's understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures in Sarawak and the building of a common future together through the "Confluence of Cultures".
Among the objectives of the Forum are:
* to provide a platform for youths to voice their opinions, views and ideas on confluence of cultures and unity;
* to encourage youth to be proactive and actively involved in inter-cultural bonding activities; and
* to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Sarawak's cultures among the young and future generation
Two papers will be presented at the 2 and a half days forum and they are on "Sarawak's Diverse Cultures" and "Engaging Young People in Inter-cultural Bonding". There will also be a presentation on Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) by the Sarawak State Planning Unit. A group discussion on "Strategies Towards Greater Inter-cultural Bonding for Better Understanding and Appreciation of Sarawak's Diverse Cultures" will also be held.
Through the forum, the youths are expected to share their thoughts on how they view the issues, and how they can be engaged in the effort to encourage inter-cultural bonding and to achieve the confluence of cultures among young people. The forum also hopes to get the youth to play a proactive and active role in shaping the direction of thoughts and programmes on local cultures.
Besides paper presentations and discussions, the participants will also be involved in cultural games, team building activities, and a gotong-royong project at the camp. On the last day of the forum, the participants will be visiting the Pueh Longhouse to experience the lifestyle of the Selako.
The participants are to comprise youths aged 16 to 25 years from the seven major communities in Sarawak namely the Malay, the Iban, the Bidayuh, the Orang Ulu, the Chinese, the Melanau and the Indian communities. There will also be youth representatives from Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and foreign youths studying in Sarawak.
The forum is part of the Fifth Sarawak Cultural Symposium this year organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation Sarawak in conjunction with the 45 Years of Sarawak's Progress in Malaysia.
